The Wisdom of a Special Sixteen Year Old.

The following is part of an e-mail Carolyn received from a 16 year old young lady, named Becky.  Carolyn asked permission to publish it on our website. We were very impressed with her humble, teachable, honest spirit and her desire to study the word of God.  We present it here as a an example of a wonderful spirit and attitude.  Note the same spirit in her father as well. She reminds us of the Bereans.

(Acts 17:11 NASB) "Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily, to see whether these things were so."

"I was looking at some other things on that web site as well and they are very challenging to me because they go against what I already believed. But I am just reading them and seeing if that is what the bible says. I do study my bible and I study different things by myself. My daddy taught me to study for myself because he says "Oh, how do you know I am teaching the truth? How do you know I am not mistaken?" So that is why I study for myself. It seems to me that we are all probably wrong about something in what we believe. Do you have e-sword? I think you do because you tell people to get it. Well, look at all those men like Barnes and Wesley and all those other men that wrote those commentaries, they did not all believe exactly the same things did they? Why not? Was it because they were insincere? Was it because they just wanted to teach lies? Was it because they did not pray hard enough to know the truth? I do not think it was any of those things. So they all prayed to know the truth but God did not say "Oh, you are wrong about what you believe on this so here is what you must believe." Now there are lots of things I believe but I suppose some things are wrong? So I pray for God to show me the truth but he does not come and tell me does he? So we have to keep studying. But I bet I still won't be right about everything. I bet Barnes prayed to know the truth and studied his bible and so did Wesley but they did not believe the same things so that proves what I mean. So we just have to keep praying and keep studying. One lady said to my mom that what she believes is true because she prayed and studied so she cannot possible be wrong. Well, that means she will never find out if she is wrong about anything because she thinks God has already shown her all the truth. But she keeps saying that she prayed and studied so she cannot be wrong. So I said to her, "Well, maybe we should all just follow you then? Maybe all Christians in the whole world can be united in what they believe by just listening to you then because you prayed and studied?" . . .

"Anyway, what I am trying to say is that I will study what you have been saying because I might be wrong."
