What Others Have Said about the Trinity

by Harley Pinon

In another section of this study, I suggested that the men of the restoration died before everything was sorted out.  Matters are really worse than that.  We have somehow lost much of what early leaders of the restoration said.  I think it is enlightening to see what these men had to say on the doctrine of the Trinity.

Stone, Campbell and Scott on the Trinity

If you find the study of the Trinity confusing, you are not alone.

"As Stone studied the doctrine of the trinity, he became confused and discouraged. Because of his discouragement, he considered giving up his effort to attain ordination but renewed his decision to press on. At the next Presbytery meeting, the leaders quizzed him briefly but generally about the subject. The trinity, however, troubled him throughout his life."  If your are interested in reading the rest of this account, it is from an article in the Christian Chronicler Stone and the Trinity

Further Stone Comments can be found at this sight, but then an objector to Stone follows.  The point I'm making is that our restoration leaders did not accept the Trinity as it is taught today in most churches of Christ as well as other churches.

The song writer Isaac Watts wrestled with the difficulty of accepting the Trinity as a doctrine taught in scriptures.  For a lengthy prayer of Isaac's go to Sir Isaac Watts
