What about Mormonism? by Harley Pinon |
![]() |
I was recently involved in a conversation when the topic of Mormonism came up. It soon became clear to me that this is a problem that I have not adequately addressed on my website. I do have a link to the book, Beyond Mormonism by James Spencer. And it is a wonderful book for many reasons, and I highly recommend it.
You may be asking, "What does Harley Pinon know about Mormonism?" That is a good question, so let me share. Carolyn and I had a good friend who was/or is a Mormon who lived in Salt Lake City. Because of a multi-level marketing business she was in, she paid for tickets for me and Carolyn to fly to Salt Lake City for a business conference. While there, she took us on a tour of Salt Lake City. We attended the Sunday morning broadcast session of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. We took a tour of Brigham Young's house. We also went to a special building where they explained various beliefs of Mormonism. It was an educational experience. This lady then came to our home when we lived in De Soto, Texas and stated with us in our home for two weeks. She attended church with us and listened to my sermons. Before she went home, she made the statement that our religion was easier than Mormonism. I asked her why, and she said, you only have one book to study, we have five. As I recall, they are The Book of Mormon, Doctrines and Covenants, The Pearl of Great Price, the Bible and the fifth I cannot remember.
In addition to that experience, I have also watched "The God Makers" which is a video by former members of the Mormon Church. There are numerous "wild" doctrines of the Mormon Church. I will list a few, but again, a Google search of Mormonism can turn up numerous great sources.
Newly added: New A great video by former Mormons
A list of websites by the Tanners
The Thunderstone website list the following. I believe they will serve as links, but some of the titles list some of the Mormon teachings that should be shocking.
1. Mormonism: God had sex with Mary to conceive Jesus
3. Mormonism: "As man is, God once was; as God is, man may be."
4. Mormonism: A wife's salvation depends upon the Husbands whim ...
15. Book of Mormon Witnesses all later DENIED its truthfulness!
17. The original 1830 Edition, Book of Mormon had 1000's of errors ...
21. Mormon church: Critical Essay written in 1832 AD
23. Book of Mormon an Inspired translation of Nephi Plates into English
24. Is Ezekiel 37 a prophecy of the Book of Mormon?
There is also a website by Ed Decker who is a former Mormon.
This is the link that will take you to the story of How Ed Decker left the Mormon church It tells much about Mormonism.
The shocking doctrines of the Mormons are many. In addition to the above, they teach:
Man will be given a planet in the future life where he can have numerous children and populate the planet he is given.
People need to have many babies because there are spirit babies which God has created that need a body.
As alluded to in #4 above, the man is the one who will have to call his wife to life in the world to come, or she will never live again. Any wonder that Mormon women have mental problems.
You can be baptized for people who are dead. As a result, they have one of the most elaborate records of genealogy in the world.
Only "Temple Mormons" can be married in the temple. To be a temple Mormon, you must go through a procedure including showing with your tax returns that you have given 12% to the Mormon Church.
The missionaries that knock on your door will practically demand of you that you call them "Elder," even though most of them are somewhere close to twenty years in age. They were once required to spend two years in ministry, but the last I heard, it had been cut to 18 months. They are responsible for getting their own support, so this comes from their savings, or the support of family and friends.
