What's the Real Goal of My Soul?

Just what should be the real goal of my soul,
Not just a small part, but encompassing the whole
Of my thoughts and decisions, to lead in the way
That will bring me secure, to that wonderful Day?

Shouldn't I strive to live to God's glory,
Sharing with others and telling His story,
Living to serve Him and taking my cross,
Willing to suffer, not counting the loss?

Do I learn from examples I've read in His word,
And make application of things I have heard?
Just what is the focus on which my mind's staid?
Have I looked to the Lord for decisions I've made?

Am I so absorbed with myself and my pleasure,
I've taken from God what should be His full measure?
For the life that He's given, for all of my days,
Do I really thank Him, and offer Him praise?

Knowing the failure and misery of greed,
I'd rather serve God and please Him indeed.
I'll pray for His guidance and for His control,
That I'll totally love Him - heart, mind, and soul.
