Steven Adair

Who is Steven Adair?  Some time after I began preaching at the Venus Church of Christ, where Teresa Dodd parents attended.  She decided to marry Phillip Adair.   Phillip was not a member of the Church of Christ, and I talked to them about setting up a Bible study in their home.  I did, and Phillip was a great student.  He was baptized into Christ and was a faithful Christian.  In course of time, they had a son and named him Steven. 

 

When Steven was just a young boy--maybe four or five-- he used to take the microphone at church while the ladies were at the back of the building preparing our noon meal.  While waiting for our dinner, Steven would take the microphone and "preach" or perhaps sing for us.  When we asked him about what he was doing, he said he was going to be a preacher.  Well, we all know how children are.  We all dreamed of being a lot of things when we were young.

 

The years have passed, and I got a call from his grandfather, John Dodd.  He asked if Steven could preach for us Sunday.  Of course, he could. 

 

Only once in my lifetime have I experienced knowing a young lady before she was married;  attend her wedding; see the couple have a child with a dream to become a preacher, and then get to hear him preach. 

 

Steven is a Freshman at Abilene Christian University, my Alma Mater.  My congratulations to Phillip and Teresa Adair for raising such a fine young man as Steven, and our commendation to Steven for wanting to preach the gospel.
