Revelation 19: Armageddon!
The Marriage of the Lamb!
Christ coming on the white horse!
Last time we studied Revelation 18. We summarized by saying that it taught:
§ Faith in God and obedience, make all the difference.
§ Those who have followed the Harlot: the one who is unfaithful to God, will weep as they see the loss of everything they held dear.
§ A patient merciful God will show a side we’ve never fully seen before as He brings justice to bear on the earth.
§ It will be a day of Great rejoicing for the people of God.
Revelation 19:
(Rev 19:1 NKJV) After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, "Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God!
"Alleluia!: “Praise the Lord!”
This is truly a day of great rejoicing and praising God because He has finally taken control of world events. Great things are about to happen!
We have heard of a “great multitude” before:
(Rev 7:9-10 NKJV) After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could number, of all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, with palm branches in their hands, {10} and crying out with a loud voice, saying, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!"
Let it be noted that "Salvation belongs to our God” really helps only those who are right with God. The rest will experience God’s wrath.
(Rev 19:2) "For true and righteous are His judgments, because He has judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication; and He has avenged on her the blood of His servants shed by her."
"For true and righteous are His judgments,
A fact recognized only by the righteous!
Not by the ungodly! Times have changed!
The former “god of this world” is not longer in control!
(2 Cor 4:4 KJV) In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
He has avenged on her the blood of His servants shed by her." He has not forgotten those who gave their lives for the cause of Christ.
(Rev 6:9-11 NKJV) When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. {10} And they cried with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?" {11} Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed.
(Rev 19:3) Again they said, "Alleluia! Her smoke rises up forever and ever!" {4} And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who sat on the throne, saying, "Amen! Alleluia!"
It is the Great Victory Celebration for the Saints of all time!
And it is okay to celebrate!
(Rev 19:5) Then a voice came from the throne, saying, "Praise our God, all you His servants and those who fear Him, both small and great!"
And so the Celebration grows in magnitude
(Rev 19:6) And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, "Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns! {7} "Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready." {8} And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
for the marriage of the Lamb has come,
(2 Cor 11:2 NKJV) For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
This is a blessed, happy event for those who are invited!
(Rev 19:9) Then he said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!' " And he said to me, "These are the true sayings of God."
(Rev 19:10) And I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, "See that you do not do that! I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren who have the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."
For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." –(NKJV, KJV, NIV, NASB)
(John 5:39 NKJV) "You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.
The testimony of Jesus and the Spirit of Prophecy are in agreement.
Now War Breaks Out!
(Rev 19:11) Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. {12} His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. {13} He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.
He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood,
I believe this is a description of Jesus, but a picture of Jesus that some have chosen to ignore. He’s not the Jesus of the manger, or the Jesus of the cross, but this is what we should expect.
(Heb 9:28 NKJV) So Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
“He will appear a second time, apart from sin,”
“apart from sin” – No cross, no sacrifice, no humility: He comes as:
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
He comes with His armies, and with His sword.
(Rev 19:14) And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. {15} Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. {16} And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.
What a Description! What an event! Nothing Gentle:
out of His mouth goes a sharp sword,
And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron.
He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
A great Announcement!
(Rev 19:17) Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, "Come and gather together for the supper of the great God,
An angel standing in the sun; What can this mean? It is amazing from several viewpoints:
§ He stands in the sun and is not consumed.
§ He is apparently brighter than the sun.
§ This is apparently to call attention to the majesty of the moment.
§ What is the Moment?
"Come and gather together for the supper of the great God,” – But what is on the menu?
(Rev 19:18) "that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great."
What once made a lot of difference, won’t matter any more:
free and slave, both small and great.
At this point in time, there is only one thing that matters: Are you right with God?
What follows is the final, non-repentant act on the part of man to resist God.
(Rev 19:19) And I saw the beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the horse and against His army.
It appears to be a short, but decisive battle.
(Rev 19:20) Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone.
There appears to be some distinction in what happened to the rest.
(Rev 19:21) And the rest were killed with the sword which proceeded from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse. And all the birds were filled with their flesh.
What a picture!
Kings, captains, men of power (mighty men), are all reduced to food for the buzzards and other birds. What an end to those who once were so feared and respected by men of this earth! Now they are reduced to nothing!
It is truly massive destruction for those who oppose God.
Conclusion
(Prov 13:13 NKJV) He who despises the word will be destroyed, But he who fears the commandment will be rewarded.
