OUR PART IN GOD'S COVENANT WITH DAVID

It concerns authority and rulership in God’s coming Kingdom.

God made an everlasting covenant of rulership with David and his sons.

     2 Samuel 7:12-19.  1 Chronicles 17:11-17.

I will set up your seed after you.

         I will establish his kingdom.

He shall build a house for my name.

I will establish his throne for ever.

I will be his father and he shall be my son.

Your house and your kingdom shall be established for ever before you.

Your throne shall be established for ever.

You have spoken of your servant’s house for a great while to come.

David’s throne is God’s throne on earth.   God sits on His throne in heaven

over all the universe.   Psalm 11:447:7,8.  93:1,2.  Isaiah 66:1,2.

Solomon sat “on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.

1 Chronicles 28:5.   Of all the nations, God chose Israel to be His special kingdom

on earth, and Jerusalem is His chosen city.  Deuteronomy 14:2.  2 Chronicles 6:6.

    Zechariah 2:12.

“Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king instead of David his father,

and prospered; and all Israel obeyed him.”  1 Chron. 29:23God had a throne on

    earth.

This Covenant with David was an everlasting covenant.  It would never end.

David would always have a son to sit upon his throne.

Jeremiah 33:17-21.  David shall never lack a man to sit upon his throne.  This

Covenant is as sure as day and night.

Psalm 89:20-29, 34-37.  God will not break this covenant about a son of David

sitting on David’s throne—which is God’s throne on earth.  That throne shall

endure for ever, and David’s Son shall sit on it, ruling the world.

David’s son, Solomon, sat on that throne.  1 Kings 2:12.

Many kings of Israel and Judah sat on that throne:  David, Solomon,

Rehoboam, Abijah, Asa, Jehoshaphat, Joram, Uzziah, Hezekiah.  Their reigns are

recorded in 1 and 2 Kings and 1 and 2 Chronicles.

Some of them were righteous, and some were wicked.

Because they became so wicked, God cut off His throne on earth for a time.

Ezekiel 21:24-27.  These words are directed to the last king, Hezekiah.

“Thou profane wicked prince of Israel,…Thus saith the LORD God; Remove

the diadem, and take off the crown; this shall not be the same…I will overturn,

overturn, overturn it: AND IT SHALL BE NO MORE, UNTIL HE COMES

WHOSE RIGHT IT IS (Christ’s), AND I WILL GIVE IT HIM.”

The throne of David, God’s throne on earth, will not be occupied until JESUS

comes, whose right it is.  Jesus shall sit on David’s throne when He comes with all

     the holy angels.  Matthew 25:31.

JESUS IS PROMISED THE THRONE OF DAVID, GOD’S THRONE ON EARTH.

Luke 1:30-33.  The Lord God will give to Him (Jesus) the throne of his father David.

Notice in the Matthew 1 and Luke 3 genealogies, Jesus is the son of both Abraham

and David, to whom the two everlasting covenants were made that concern our

          salvation.

Isaiah 9:6,7.  Messiah (Christ) will reign on the throne of David.

Psalm 2:6-12.  Messiah (the Son of God) will rule over all the kings of the earth.

         Also Psalm 45Psalm 72Zechariah 6:12,13.

Matthew 25:31-34.   Jesus will come in His glory with His angels.

Then He shall sit on David’s throne and assume rulership of the earth.

Then He shall separate the nations, inviting some people to inheritance in

God’s Kingdom, and casting away some into the lake of fire, there to

die the second death.  Revelation 20:15.

Matthew 19:28.    In the regeneration, Jesus will sit on His throne, and the 12

Apostles will sit on 12 thrones judging Israel.

TRUE CHRISTIANS WILL REIGN WITH JESUS AS KINGS AND PRIESTS.

Rev. 3:21.   The overcomer will be invited to rule with Jesus.

(Notice the two thrones of God here in this verse.)

Rev. 2:26,27.   Jesus will give the overcomer power over the nations, to rule over

          them.

Rev. 5:10.  The Redeemed will reign over the earth.

Psalm 149:5-9.   The saints will help judge, when God judges the earth.

2 Tim. 2:12.   If we suffer with Him, we will also reign with Him.

Rev. 20:4, 6.  Those in the first resurrection will be priests of God and of Christ, and

shall reign with Him a thousand years.

NOW, IN THE AGE BEFORE CHRIST COMES AND REIGNS, NOTICE HOW HE

IS BUILDING A HOUSE FOR GOD’S NAME.   See 2 Samuel 7:13.

Matthew 16:13-19.   Jesus said, “I will build my church.”

The rock on which He is building it is not Peter, but on Peter’s confession, that

Jesus is the Son of God.

John 14:2,3.   In God’s house (household) are many abiding places.  Jesus ascended to

heaven to prepare a place in God’s house for us.  He will come again.

What IS God’s house?  1 Timothy 3:15.  The house of God is the Church of God Jesus is

From heaven Jesus is building the Church today.  That house of God Jesus is

Building today—the church, or, the saints—will reign with Him when He comes.

WHEN JESUS COMES IN POWER AND GLORY, WITH THE HOLY ANGELS, He

SHALL COME AS A GREAT KING.  Matthew 25:31-46Revelation 19:14-21.  He

shall reign over the earth for 1000 years.  Revelation 20:4-6.  His people will reign

     with Him.  Daniel 7:18,22,27Revelation 20:6.

THE ABRAHAMIC COVENANT and the DAVIDIC COVENANT ARE THE FOUNDATION OF THE GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD.

One offers eternal life and eternal inheritance in the earth.

The other offers us authority and rulership with Jesus in the Kingdom of God.

God will be our God forever, and His glory will fill the earth.  Numbers 14:21.

        Isaiah 11:9.   Habakkuk 2:14.
