Choose Good Friends
(Inspired by Becky Rene's Lesson on Choosing Your Friends Wisely)

Choosing friends who are good
Helps determine how we live,
For good friends are to us
Like a magnet and a sieve.
Good friends draw to our lives
Things uplifting and true,
Help strain out the bad stuff,
And let the good stuff through.

These good friends, they may come
As a person or a book,
And they help us escape
Getting caught by the hook
Of bad things we may see
And bad things we may hear
That could lead us astray
From the things we hold dear.

The book that should guide us
In the choices we make
Is God's word, the Bible;
And, please, make no mistake,
We can't know what is right,
And we can't know what's true
Just by intuition;
No, that just won't do.

We must study God's word,
And so closely follow,
That we won't be misled
Or gullibly swallow
The lies of the Devil
With which he will lure
By trick and deception
All those who are unsure.

When you see how some girls
Do not act with respect,
Whose talk isn't wholesome,
It's time to disconnect.
Don't get into friendships
For popularity;
Hold tight to your morals,
Your faith, and dignity.

Be careful how you dress,
Let your speech be with grace,
And be sure to choose friends
Who will not disgrace,
Nor turn from the One
Who'll never ever leave us,
Our best friend and Savior -
God's only son, Jesus.
