The Antichrist.

In Our Last Lesson, we concluded by talking about the Antichrist.  Tonight we continue our study into the Old and New Testaments.

The Antichrist is described in different ways:

Daniel 7:21"I was watching; and the same horn was making war against the saints, and prevailing against them, {22} "until the Ancient of Days came, and a judgment was made in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came for the saints to possess the kingdom. {23} "Thus he said: 'The fourth beast shall be A fourth kingdom on earth, Which shall be different from all other kingdoms, And shall devour the whole earth, Trample it and break it in pieces. {24} The ten horns are ten kings Who shall arise from this kingdom. And another shall rise after them; He shall be different from the first ones, And shall subdue three kings.

More Description of the Antichrist

Daniel 7:25 He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, Shall persecute the saints of the Most High, And shall intend to change times and law. Then the saints shall be given into his hand For a time and times and half a time.

That is, time = 1year

Times = 2 years

Half a time = ½ year

Total time = 3 ½ years

{26} 'But the court shall be seated, [The Supreme Court of all Supreme Courts:  Almighty God’s Court] And they shall take away his dominion, To consume and destroy it forever. {27} Then the kingdom and dominion, And the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven, Shall be given to the people, the saints of the Most High. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And all dominions shall serve and obey Him.'

-- The End of Daniel’s vision!

But What about the name: Antichrist?

(1 John 2:18 NKJV)  Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour.

Only John gives us the name, but not a complete description.

From Daniel 7:24 The ten horns are ten kings Who shall arise from this kingdom. And another shall rise after them; He shall be different from the first ones, And shall subdue three kings.

Now turn to Revelation

(Rev 13:1-9 NKJV)  Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name.

Rev 13:2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon [the devil] gave him his power, his throne, and great authority.

(Dan 7:4 NKJV)  "The first was like a lion,

(Dan 7:5 NKJV)  "And suddenly another beast, a second, like a bear.

(Dan 7:6 NKJV)  "After this I looked, and there was another, like a leopard,

I noted the statements of Irvin Baxter that he thought the lion represents England.  Notice from Revelation 13:2 “his mouth like the mouth of a lion.”  This may very well mean that the language will be English, if Baxter is correct about the lion representing England.

Rev 13:3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast.

Rev 13:4 So they worshiped the dragon [the devil: so we have devil worship!] who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?" {5} And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months.

forty-two months = the 3 ½ years referred to in Daniel.

Rev 13:6 Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. {7} It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. {8} All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. {9} If anyone has an ear, let him hear.

That’s Jesus way of saying, this is important!  You need to listen!

(2 Th 2:1-12 NKJV)  Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, {2} not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. {3} Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, {4} who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

{5} Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? {6} And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time.

Who is restraining we are not told in this verse.

(2 Th 2:7) For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.

Revealing & end of Antichrist.

(2 Th 2:8) And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.

The Antichrist is empowered by Satan.

(2 Th 2:9) The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, {10} and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

Since they did not want the Truth, God turns them over to believe the lie.

(2 Th 2:11) And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, {12} that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Back to Daniel 8 that we studied earlier:

(Dan 8:23-26 NKJV)  "And in the latter time of their kingdom, When the transgressors have reached their fullness, A king shall arise, Having fierce features, Who understands sinister schemes. {24} His power shall be mighty, but not by his own power; He shall destroy fearfully, And shall prosper and thrive; He shall destroy the mighty, and also the holy people. {25} "Through his cunning He shall cause deceit to prosper under his rule; And he shall exalt himself in his heart. He shall destroy many in their prosperity. He shall even rise against the Prince of princes; But he shall be broken without human means.

Remember this verse?

(2 Th 2:8) And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.

(Daniel 8:26) "And the vision of the evenings and mornings Which was told is true; Therefore seal up the vision, For it refers to many days in the future."

Who is affected by the Antichrist?

Apparently All of God’s People, but especially the Jewish People.

(Dan 10:14 NKJV)  "Now I have come to make you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision refers to many days yet to come."

When will the Antichrist come?

Apparently at the very end of time.

Christ will destroy him.  It will be without human hands.

I believe that the Antichrist is the one responsible for much of the suffering of “The Great Tribulation.”

(Mat 24:21-22 NKJV)  "For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. {22} "And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect's sake those days will be shortened.

Warnings!  What are we to do?

(Luke 21:34-36 NKJV)  "But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly.

(Luke 21:35) "For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. {36} "Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man."

We don’t know all that there is to know about the Great Tribulation, but we do know some things:

(Dan 12:1-4 NKJV)  "At that time Michael shall stand up, The great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people; And there shall be a time of trouble, Such as never was since there was a nation, Even to that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, Every one who is found written in the book. {2} And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, Some to everlasting life, Some to shame and ever-lasting contempt.

{3} Those who are wise shall shine Like the brightness of the firmament, And those who turn many to righteousness Like the stars forever and ever. {4} "But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase."

What Can We Do?

We need to be prepared with a righteous life.

We need to be prepared with prayer and asking God that we might be counted worthy to escape all these things.

We need to be strong, and ready to suffer if that is what comes our way.

We need to seek to turn others to the Lord.

As bad as the Antichrist will be, it will be much worse to not be right with God.
