If sadness shall abide with me

Then all the more I’ll be

A source of joy for unhappy souls

Crying more than me

 

If loss shall be all I’ll know

Then all the more I’ll be

A source of comfort for bitter souls

Grieving more than me

 

If hardship is my lot in life

Then all the more I’ll be

A source of cheer for suffering souls

Bearing more than me

 

If misery must rest on me

Then all the more I’ll be

A source of hope for bitter souls

Broken more than me

 

Whatever You appoint for me

Then all the more I’ll be

A source of love for tortured souls

Who need You more than me
