Abortion

Introduction
1. This is a lesson about a very horrible subject – abortion.
2. Maybe you do not even know what abortion is or maybe you know what abortion is but you do not know why it is so horrible. Well, when we get to the end of this lesson, you will understand what it is and why it is so horrible.
3. This is a very horrible subject and so I made sure those girls told their parents about what we were going to talk about. Those parents said they appreciated that and they even wanted to see the lesson before we had that study.
I. About Abortion
A. This is the most horrible part of the lesson because we are going to explain what abortion is all about. I was very shocked when I learnt what abortion is all about and I got very upset when I saw those pictures because it is so horrible.
1. The American Heritage Dictionary defines abortion like this:
a. What does abortion mean?
1) Termination of pregnancy and expulsion of an embryo or of a fetus that is incapable of survival.
2) Any of various procedures that result in such termination and expulsion; also called induced abortion.
b. The premature expulsion of a nonviable fetus from the uterus; a miscarriage.
c. Cessation of normal growth, especially of an organ or other body part, prior to full development or maturation.
d. An aborted organism.
e. Something malformed or incompletely developed; a monstrosity.
2. Now if you read that carefully, you can see…
a. There is a natural abortion. This is called a miscarriage. The AHD says it is, “The premature expulsion of a nonviable fetus from the uterus. Also called spontaneous abortion.” The word nonviable means, “Not capable of living or developing” (AHD).
b. There is an unnatural abortion. This is when you go to hospital and let those doctors kill and expel an embryo or a fetus. We will talk about why a girl or a woman would have this done later.
B. So how do they perform an unnatural abortion? There are five procedures:
1. The vacuum suction method (Chart 1). The baby is sucked out of the womb by a vacuum.
2. The cutting up method. The baby is cut into pieces inside the womb of the mother and the skull is crushed with forceps to reduce its size so they can pull it out.
3. The surgical method. The abdomen of the mother is surgically opened and the baby is removed. The baby is then killed.
4. The saline method. A salt solution is injected into the mother’s amniotic sac and the baby is burned to death by the saline solution. The baby thrashes about for a few moments and then it dies. In 24 hours, labor will start and the already dead baby is delivered.
5. The D & E and the D & X method (Chart 2 & 3).

C. So now you know what really happens when a girl or a woman has an abortion. It is very horrible isn’t it? Now here are some statistics about abortion (you can see these statistics here: www.abortionno.org/Resources/fastfacts.html):
1. Worldwide, there are about 46 million abortions every year, that is 126000 abortions every day.
2. Here in America, there are about 1.37 million abortions every year, that is 3700 abortions every day.
3. Who is having these abortions?
a. 48% are over 25 years old.
b. 52% are under 25 years old.
1) 32% of these are 20-24 years old.
2) 20% of these are teenagers.
3) 1.2% of these are girls under 15 years old.
c. 64.4% of all those who have abortions are not even married.
D.
How far into pregnancy is it before girls and women have abortions?
(you can see these statistics
here:
www.abortionno.org/Resources/fastfacts.html):
1. 52% have abortions before the 9th week.
2. 25% have abortions between the 9th & 10th week.
3. 12% have abortions between the 11th & 12th week.
4. 6% have abortions between the 13th & 15th week.
5. 4% have abortions between the 16th & 20th week.
6. 1% have abortions after the 20th week.
II. Justifying Abortion
A. So why do girls and women have abortions? (you can see these statistics here: www.abortionno.org/Resources/fastfacts.html):
1. 1% have abortions because of rape or incest.
2. 6% have abortions because of potential health problems (the mother’s health or the baby’s health).
3. But look at this: 93% have abortions because of social reasons. That means the baby is unwanted or it is inconvenient for her. Isn’t that terrible?
B. Now some of you girls said to me, “Oh, what if you are raped or what if that growing baby will kill the mom?” Well, I cannot answer that last question because I have not thought about that very much but we will look and see what the Bible says about having abortions because of rape and incest and social reasons.
III. What The Bible Says About Abortion
A. I think we need to look at what the Bible says about killing.
1. People think that the Bible says it is wrong to kill because it says, “Thou shalt not kill” – Exodus 20.13. But look what it says in Exodus 21.12, "He who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death." Now you might be confused by that!
2. Now that is what those verses say in the KJV and that is a very old Bible. But in the NASB it says, “You shall not murder” – Exodus 20.13. It is not always wrong to kill but it is always wrong to murder. There is lawful killing and unlawful killing. When someone is put to death for a crime, then that is a lawful killing. But when you kill someone just because you do not like them or something like that, then that is an unlawful killing or murder.
B. So, we know it is wrong to take a life unlawfully, which is murder, and no one will argue about that. So is abortion murder?
1. Some people say that a baby in the womb is not a real person yet and so it is ok to kill it. But look what the Bible says about that…
"When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit" (Luke 1:41 NASBR)
a. Did you see what the Bible calls what was in Elizabeth’s womb? It says “baby” and that is no different to what you call those babies when they are born. Look at what the Bible says about those children who were brought to Jesus…
"And they were bringing even their babies to Him so that He would touch them, but when the disciples saw it, they began rebuking them" (Luke 18:15 NASBR)
b. It does not matter whether that baby is in the womb or walking around the place, they are babies or infants.
2. Now it says in the Bible, "Thus you shall not show pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot" - Deuteronomy 19.21. So that means that if you murder someone, then you should be put to death.
a. Now you cannot murder something that is not a person can you? So if an unborn baby is not a person, then you should not be put to death for that should you?
b. So now look what happens to someone who kills an unborn child: "If men struggle with each other and strike a woman with child so that she gives birth prematurely, yet there is no injury, he shall surely be fined as the woman's husband may demand of him, and he shall pay as the judges decide. But if there is any further injury, then you shall appoint as a penalty life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise" - Exodus 21.22-25. Do you understand that? If the premature baby dies, then that man must die a “life for life.” So life starts in the womb.
Summary
1. Abortion is a horrible thing. It can happen naturally or it can be done by doctors. There are different ways to perform this procedure and all of them make you feel sick inside.
2. There are millions of abortions every year and 93% of those are just because someone did not want to have a baby. If you take that statistic and compare that with the number of children who are murdered and abused each year, it is difficult to see how we can claim that we are a nation that loves our children.
3. The Bible says that a person is a person whether born or unborn. So that means that abortion is murder. Just imagine the millions and millions of people who will be condemned as murderers on the judgment day! A lot of them will probably say, “But I didn’t murder anyone!”
4. 64.4% of all those who have abortions are not even married. I think a lot of young girls do all that sexy stuff and they get pregnant and then they say, “Oh, if my parents find out I am pregnant they will go ballistic. Well I do not really want an abortion but I think I’d better if I do not want to get into serious trouble with my parents” or maybe those parents say, “Oh, you are a bad girl and you are not going to have that baby so you need to get an abortion.” So you can see why you should do what the Bible says and flee fornication (1 Corinthians 6.18) and wait to do all that sexy stuff until you are married (Hebrews 13.4).
