Last time, we discussed

Revelation 21

The New Heaven and the New Earth

And the New Jerusalem

We concluded our study with these thoughts:

(Rev 21:26) And they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. {27} But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.

God will have the ultimate victory.

He will share it with His saints.

When all is over, the ultimate need is to be written in the Lamb's Book of Life.

We continue our thoughts tonight with Revelation 22:

The New Jerusalem continues

With the Tree of Life and River of Water of Life.

We come to the Restoration of all things!

(Acts 3:19-21 NKJV)  "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, {20} "and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, {21} "whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.

The Restoration:  The water of life

(Rev 22:1 NKJV)  And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb.

The Restoration:  The tree of life

(Rev 22:2) In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

The Restoration:  The Curse is gone!

(Rev 22:3) And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him.

The Curse!

(Gen 3:16-19 NKJV)  To the woman He said: "I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you." {17} Then to Adam He said, "Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat of it': "Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life. {18} Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field. {19} In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return."

The Restoration:  The Fellowship is back!

(Rev 22:4) They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads.

(Gen 3:8 NKJV)  And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.

His name shall be on their foreheads.

(Rev 14:1 NKJV)  Then I looked, and behold, a Lamb standing on Mount Zion [Jerusalem], and with Him one hundred and forty-four thousand, having His Father's name written on their foreheads.

The Restoration:  And Beyond:  No night there!

(Rev 22:5) There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.

“Things which must shortly take place.”

(Rev 22:6) Then he said to me, "These words are faithful and true." And the Lord God of the holy prophets sent His angel to show His servants the things which must shortly take place.

We need to Understand How God Uses “Shortly”

Isaiah 60:19-22 (NKJV) "The sun shall no longer be your light by day, Nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you; But the LORD will be to you an everlasting light, And your God your glory. (20) Your sun shall no longer go down, Nor shall your moon withdraw itself; For the LORD will be your everlasting light, And the days of your mourning shall be ended. (21) Also your people shall all be righteous; They shall inherit the land forever, The branch of My planting, The work of My hands, That I may be glorified. (22) A little one shall become a thousand, And a small one a strong nation.  I, the LORD, will hasten it in its time." [Yes, "in its time, the LORD will make it happen speedily.)]

Some questions we need to answer:

§     Have these things happened yet?

§     Do you believe they will happen?

§     Is this the same thing being described in Revelation 22?

A conclusion:

If these things haven’t happened yet, then “will hasten it in its time."  Is not to “hasten” as we think of hastening.

(Rev 22:7) "Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps [by keeping the eye upon] the words of the prophecy of this book."

(Rev 22:7 NASB)  "And behold, I am coming quickly. Blessed is he who heeds the words of the prophecy of this book."

(Rev 22:8) Now I, John, saw and heard these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things.

Angel Worship is Forbidden!

(Rev 22:9) Then he said to me, "See that you do not do that. For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God."

To Seal or Not to Seal?

(Rev 22:10) And he said to me, "Do not seal the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is at hand.

(Dan 12:4) "But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”

There is no longer a seal:  What does that Mean?

§     Clearly, we are nearer to the time when these things will happen.

§     This is the last inspired message to man.

§     There won’t be a later message to unseal the book.

The time is coming, when it will be too late

(Rev. 22:11) "He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still."

He is coming with his reward.

(Rev 22:12)  "And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.

(Heb 11:6 NKJV)  But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Who is “I am the Alpha & the Omega”?

(Rev. 22:13) "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last."

(Rev 21:4-7 NKJV)  "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." {5} Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write, for these words are true and faithful." {6} And He said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. {7} "He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.

My conclusion?

"I am the Alpha and the Omega,” Refers to God the Father, not Jesus the Son.

“Blessed are those who do His commandments”

(Rev 22:14) Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.

Judgment has taken Place:  There is now a great difference between the saved and the lost?

(Rev. 22:15) But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.

The beginning and end of the book:

(Rev 1:1 NKJV)  The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants; things which must shortly take place. And He sent and signified it by His angel to His servant John,

And now the Signature:

(Rev 22:16) "I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star."

The Great Invitation

(Rev 22:17) And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.

Do Not Tamper with the book of Revelation

(Rev 22:18) For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; {19} and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

He is Coming, and John is Ready!

(Rev 22:20) He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming quickly." Amen.

[John’s Comments:] Even so, come, Lord Jesus! {21} The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

With two “Amen’s” we finish the book.

That does not mean:

§     We have exhausted the book.

§     That we have finished studying the book.

§     That we have said all that can be said.

What else can be said?

There are historical notes:

§      How did we get where we are?

§      What was the teaching of the early church?

§      What have other leaders of the restoration movement believed about the book of Revelation?

There could be a summary, trying to put some of the thoughts together.

Finally, there is the Question:  What Now?
